Line trenches with landscape fabric to keep weeds at bay. Add crushed stone or gravel beneath the timbers to prevent rot. Let the wood dry properly (below 15% moisture) before staining and don’t forget to stain the ends! Drill ½-inch holes into timbers and anchor them firmly with 3-foot rebar stakes. Stack layers securely using structural screws. Finish with a pressure-treated top cap; mitering the corners gives it a polished look.
