นายอภิสิทธิ์ เวชชาชีวะ หัวหน้าพรรคประชาธิปัตย์ กล่าวถึงกรณีที่รัฐบาลยกเลิกการออกพระราชกฤษฎีกาพระราชทานอภัยโทษที่จะเอื้อประโยชน์ให้ พ.ต.ท.ทักษิณ ชินวัตร อดีตนายกรัฐมนตรี แต่จะมีการผลักดัน พ.ร.บ.นิรโทษกรรมเพื่อให้ พ.ต.ท.ทักษิณ พ้นผิดแทนว่า การที่ ร.ต.อ.เฉลิม อยู่บำรุง รองนายกฯ ออกมาเดินหน้าเรื่องนี้ ทำให้ตนแปลกใจว่า เหตุใดคนที่เป็นรองนายกฯ กลับมาพูดเรื่องนี้เหมือนเรื่องสนุก ใช้คำพูดว่า “สับขาหลอก” ทั้งที่เป็นความเสียหายกับบ้านเมือง ซึ่งพรรคก็ทราบดีว่าความพยายามที่จะช่วยเหลือ พ.ต.ท.ทักษิณ ถูกกำหนดไว้หลายทางเลือก และจะมีความพยายามต่อไป

“การที่รัฐบาลยังนำเอาปัญหาของ พ.ต.ท.ทักษิณ มาผูกเป็นปัญหาของประเทศ จะทำให้บ้านเมืองเสียโอกาสไปเรื่อยๆ บรรยากาศของสังคมจะเกิดความตึงเครียดและขัดแย้งเป็นระยะ ทั้งที่เป็นโอกาสที่รัฐบาลจะเดินหน้าแก้ปัญหาประชาชน โดยเฉพาะวิกฤติน้ำท่วมครั้งนี้มีงานใหญ่รออยู่อีกมากที่ต้องการการมีส่วนร่วมของทุกส่วน จึงต้องพักเรื่องความขัดแย้งเอาไว้ก่อน ผมย้ำจุดยืนของพรรคประชาธิปัตย์ว่า หากมีการผลักดัน พ.ร.บ.นิรโทษกรรมเข้าสภา พรรคจะไม่เห็นด้วยอย่างแน่นอน” นายอภิสิทธิ์ กล่าวและว่า
ส่วนคณะกรรมาธิการปรองดองชุด พล.อ.สนธิ บุญยรัตกลิน ก็ยังมีความเห็นที่แตกต่างกัน และขอย้ำว่าความปรองดองไม่ได้หมายความว่าวันดีคืนดี มาบอกว่าใครทำอะไรผิด ก็ถือว่าไม่ผิด คงไม่ใช่ ซึ่งตนได้สอบถามกรรมาธิการของพรรคก็ยังไม่มีข้อสรุปว่าจะมีการใช้กรรมาธิการชุดนี้เพื่อผลักดัน พ.ร.บ.นิรโทษหรือไม่ และพรรคได้ให้จุดยืนไปแล้ว
